CAL Leadership Institute aka CALLI
Sponsored by the CAL Leadership Development Committee

CALLI Goals: to develop leaders within CAL and the Colorado library community by:
1. Allowing an exploration and understanding of personal leadership styles.
2. Developing key relationships among participants, presenters, and the larger library community through inquiry (listening and understanding others), advocacy (learning about issues and taking a stand), and networking (building collaborative networks and creating coalitions for change).
3. Providing the necessary professional development opportunities to grow leaders at all levels of library organizations.

CALLI Outline
CALLI is a 13 month program that begins in August 2018 with an introductory webinar, followed by a two-day in-person introductory session in September. The monthly sessions are a mix of in-person and virtual sessions (see schedule outline below) and the institute also includes readings, group work and presentations. The committee estimates that CALLI participants spend an average of 10 hours each month on CALLI activities. All participants also work with a mentor during the institute.

  • October 25 - 26, 2018: Full day Communication; Half day Mentoring
  • November 2018: Readings on Leadership –discuss articles online
  • December 2018 Readings on Leadership-reading book for January discussion
  • January 2019: Leadership Book Presentation , online
  • February 2019: Advocacy webinar
  • March 2019: Lobby Day: March 27, 2018 from 8 to noon
  • April 2019: Mid-Point Leadership Check-In
  • May 2019: Change Agent webinar
  • June 2019: Leadership In Motion Session; Ethics (1.5 days)
  • July 2019: Leadership Presentation Preparation
  • August 2019: Leadership project presentations
  • September 2019: Looking to the Future Presentations
Application Process:
Anyone who is a CAL member and works in the library field is eligible to apply. Because we are looking to develop
leaders throughout the library community, there are no requirements for minimum or maximum work experience.
Apply online with a letter/presentation/website indicating interest and 2 letters of recommendation.

$200 registration fee ($100 will be due upon acceptance to the Institute, and $100 will be due in January 2019).
Additional expenses will vary but are estimated at a minimum of $400 for mileage, lodging, meals, materials, etc.
